a berry sweet day

The girls and I had a fun Wednesday.  We went to our favorite orchard, Weaver's Orchard, for their First Wednesday on the Farm activities.

We started on the swingset and then visited the animals.

Then it was time for storytime.  We sat on the stage on some hay bales.

We listened to Blackberry Banquet, sang a song about blackberries, and then got the directions for picking blackberries.

We walked over to start picking blackberries.  Mia told me we were on an adventure and she loved searching for the blackberries.

Mia followed directions and only picked the black ones. She told me the red ones "weren't ready yet."

Kayla got in on the action too.  She is at the age where she really wants to be involved in what we are doing.

Our berry cute girls...

After picking our blackberries we headed back over to the market for their salsa demonstration.  Weaver's has my favorite pineapple salsa and today they showed us how to make it and gave us the recipe.  They also shared how to make watermelon salsa and peach salsa....all were delicious!  Mia helped make the salsa by cutting the pineapple using a plastic knife.  I couldn't believe how well she did considering this was her first time using a knife.  She was excited to help.

After the salsa demonstration we went into the market to do some shopping.  The girls tried to hide from me :)

After shopping it was time for the next demonstration.  This time they showed us how to make and gave us recipes for fruit and vegetable smoothies.  The girls were great taste testers.  Mia does a nice job of always making sure Kayla is included.

We ended the day with some ice cream.

It was a berry sweet day with my girls!
