Mia's first soccer camp

We signed Mia up to play soccer this fall season.  I saw they were offering a free camp so we signed her up to see how she liked it.  We bought her some pink soccer gear, practiced in the backyard and read a book about soccer and never giving up appropriately written by Mia Hamm.

Don't be fooled by that sweet smile, she has one determined soccer face.  We like to think she has been practicing that determined face all year long in preparation for soccer ;)  We've seen it once or twice before :)

Her first night of camp went ok.  There were about 50 kids, 3 soccer coaches and me :) out on the field.  Similar to dance class, she would only stay out there if I stayed with her.  That is how the first 40 minutes of camp went.  She enjoyed it, but only if I was there practicing with everyone.  Then a guy came by telling us that there was a police officer there giving tickets to people who were parked in the wrong parking lot.  She asked why the police were at soccer camp and I told her they were there to make sure everyone was following the rules.  She said "well then I better get out there and practice on my own."  Off she ran out to the field and she practiced for the remaining 20 minutes by herself.  Nothing I said had convinced her to practice on her own but that did the trick!

The second and third nights were a success.  She practiced for the whole hour all by herself and really liked it!  She followed along with the drills and games they did.

It was a hot night and she practiced hard so daddy helped her cool off.

She was quite the little Mia DurHAMM.  She loved it, keeps talking about it and now calls it her "best sport".  She is looking forward to the fall season!
